Nursing Effects of Cyclone IDAI
warnings were ushered out by meteorological services through radio stations and moving vehicles mounted with sound equipment. Communities would laugh and in the usual voices saying the Malawi meteorological services have never been true to their predictions when it comes to weather forecast, and also knowing there is nothing they can do to prepare for the unknown bound for them. Such was the case for people of Mwaliwa and Kathebwe group village headmen in Zomba under T/A Mwambo, only to be proven wrong by the roaring thunder accompanied by chilly winds blowing from all directions creating a passage for the unceasing Cyclone ANA, and later IDAI. These two led to destructions of homes and farms, and along with these, stored food, furniture, kitchen utensils, livestock and most importantly, HOPE, leaving families devastated.
Emmanuel International Malawi, with the help of a few individuals from Australia have joined in to intensify government efforts to bring the people of these villages back to their feet, mainly targeting elderly women households by handing giving them bags of flour, kitchen utensils, and packets of soya pieces to take them through the dry season as they prepare for the yet to come farming season.
The community is thankful to the donation that saved them during the after month of the cyclones which affected area, many people are still having the impact of the cyclones since most of the elders lost their homes and currently being housed in unsafe homes, no support for proper accommodation.
