In an effort to end GBV against children, Emmanuel International Malawi, with support from Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) has initiated a five day training for Village Savings and Loans (VSL) agents from Traditional Authority Nyambi, Machinga district.
The project which is titled Ending Child Marriages, builds upon lessons learned and gaps identified during implementation of UNICEF project (Integrated Child Protection, Livelihood & Skills Development) by Emmanuel International which phased out in December, 2018.
It seeks to ensure households with victims of child marriages attain some level of economic independence through their participation in Village Savings and Loan groups. These households will be encouraged to engage in small scale businesses to ensure they acquire some profits to ease their financial constraints and provide their households’ amenities.
In this particular activity, each of the identified existing VSL groups was requested to send a representative to be drilled in policies for loan management, social fund and share purchase, group constitution development, book keeping in VSL, ledger book writing, and leadership skills required to run a VSL Group
