The story of Maria
Maria is one of the young mothers who was found with HIV and is currently attending young mothers club at St Luke’s Hospital being managed by Emmanuel International. She got tested in 2015 and started getting ARVS. She has been having poor adherence because she did not want to get drugs and has been staying far from the hospital hence ended up missing appointment dates.
Later she met one of the counsellors from at the health facility who supported her through counselling and encouraged her to join Teen Club. She felt good because she joined a clinic model targeting only adolescents living with to access medical care and psychosocial services. Since she joined Teen club her adherence improved and was able to easily cope up with diagnosis.
