Community Justice Structures are Complimenting Child Protection Efforts of EI Malawi

In its quest to achieve child justice and awareness on child rights, Emmanuel International Malawi works with already existing community structures.

This is the story of a case which happened in T/A Chiwalo headquarters where the chairperson for community victim support unit (Mr. Manes Black) who is also a mentor working with Emmanuel International Malawi in Chitinji 2 was passing judgment on a child marriage case.

The case involved Triphonia Kabichi, a 16 year old girl from Thomu Village, GVH Chitinji 2, T/A Chiwalo, who stubbornly got married to Friday Moses, a 19 year old boy from Chimbalanga village, GVH Chimwaza, T/A Chiwalo.

Upon thorough discussion, the children together with their parents understood the need to abolish the marriage. It should be reported that the parents of the daughter were strongly against marriage but the daughter was very adamant. Meanwhile the girl has accepted to go back to school this coming school session of September 2018. She dropped from school while she was in standard 4 at Lilimbe primary school. Below is a photo of the case in session.
