Emmanuel International Malawi has observed that Malawi can end child marriages if community structures are strengthened in fighting against the vice.
The organization’s Field Facilitator Amos Willick made the observation in Traditional Authority (TA) Nyambi , Machinga when Emmanuel International Malawi handed over a renovated block to Mbatamira Community Based Organisation(CBO).
The project support from Canadian Government through Canadian Fund for Local Initiative (CFLI) under its End Child Marriage project in the district.
The project aimed at reducing cases of forced and early marriages among girls in TA Nyambi- is supporting over 100 girls withdrawn from early and forced marriage through school support and economic empowerment activities targeting guardians.
Machinga district gender officer Rita Sukasuka said the project is increasing community awareness on childrens rights, child protection services and impact of early and forced marriages.
