Favourite Verse

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:4-7

Why Malawi?

Why I came to Malawi: Because God told me to come to Malawi. God burdened me with the desire to see people have access to treat wastewater and have clean water. This caused me to switch programs and start studying Environmental Engineering. Initially, I applied to serve with EI because I wanted to get a taste of how a water & sanitation project unfolds in a developing country. When my application was accepted, my desire to go and serve flew out the window and I was left feeling terrified and no longer wanting to go. But God firmly closed every other possible door I was trying to run through and clearly lit my path towards Malawi. That being the case, I couldn't deny God's persistence in calling me to this country, so I came to Malawi out of obedience. (And of course, God is faithful and good, and has continued to overload me with blessings since being here!)

14 July 2009. TIA

Plans change a lot here. It's Africa. TIA (This Is Africa). It's cool, it happens, just go with the flow. Or atleast this is how I used to handle the lack of planning and bad timing. I've recently realized how much easier it was to deal with this when Mike (azungu project manager) was still here because he was good as explaining things to me so I knew what was going on at all times.
